If you’re fed up with your children being treated as a number and not as people, the home school route may be the best way to go. The decision to pull a child out of a public or private school and offer them lessons at home is a huge one. Inasmuch, it should not be taken lightly and it’s imperative for parents to fully analyze the situation before rushing into a decision.

That said, the home school route is chosen by families all over the world for a number of reasons. And while parents will serve the role as full-time educators in addition to parents, this doesn’t necessarily mean they need to be adept at every subject that will be presented.

Before deciding whether to pull a child out of school to go the home school route, ask yourself a few questions and be very honest about the answers:

* Are you willing to dedicate the time necessary to properly school your youngster?

* Do you have enough discipline to ensure that lessons are conducted on a regular basis?

* Are you willing to enforce the rules of the road to ensure you child’s educational experience doesn’t suffer? This mean “teaching” them and not doing their work for them.

* Do you and your child/children have the kind of relationship that lends itself to a home school experience? This means, in a nutshell, will your child listen to you, learn from you and actually gain from the experience?

* Can you afford the expenses that will go along with a home school education? Since you won’t have an entire school at your disposal, there might be expenses in relation to books, lesson plans, learning tools and more. Consider this carefully before you jump in.

If you’ve decided you and your child can handle the home school route, the best places to turn for advice on getting started are local home schooling groups and the school district itself. You will need to know what your child must accomplish to be considered successfully home schooled by your state or local educating authority. It is imperative that your child be on par with the standards or future educational pursuits might be jeopardized.

Smart parents in a number of locales have banned together to make the home school experience better for themselves and their children. There are support groups and alliances available where parents can trade off teaching youngsters different subjects and also still make sure their children receive the socialization benefits they need. This was something me and a friend made over a weekend for a school project on Short Films. As the project states, the following short film attempts to create humor using the techniques we learnt. We used lots of stupid, almost slapstick humor. Also, we play with stereotypes of a teenager, or rather, immaturity and stupidity. Language plays a big part in this particular short film; Colloquial speech is used throughout the film that would not have been heard 50 years ago. The camera was used with really shit. We hired it from the school, and the stupid lighting thing screwed up in the kitchen, and we tried to edit it with iMovie to make it darker… looks kind of crap. I’m uploading this mostly to show a friend [HI LOU], but any comments would be appreciated.

We hear of incidents of school violence almost everyday. Your child may encounter and witness violent and aggressive behavior, which may be damaging to him. Some incidents may even lead to deaths. Is your child ready to encounter this kind of situation? Of course you do not want this to happen. To avoid these, you can chose to home school your child.

If the outside world is not safe for him, keep him at home and let him learn at home. Although learning in school is the proper way, the programs in school can also be applicable to home schooling. This is important to maintain so that your child will not feel left behind educationally.

In order to have the same programs in school, you will have to dedicate yourself to a lot of work. A lot of small industries now subsist exclusively to provide the educational tools for home schooling and will be an enormous help in setting up and keeping up your own home classroom. As well as to provide a foundation for you to maintain in recordkeeping and keeping you abreast of new changes and developments in the field, they offer support groups.

There are a lot of different ways to home school, so you will have to do your research and see what application is best for you and your child. Montessori is one of the most effective ways, and they have been recognized for years as a triumphant program for certain children. You can research on how they educate kids. It will depend on your child and your lifestyle as to what you choose to do and have. With each of the programs, you will find detractors and supporters, as well as some support groups who are willing to help and walk you through the system as you plan your child’s goals. This won’t be hard to maintain and keep up.

Next, you will have to assume all responsibility for your child’s education. You may find it difficult to work off of the kitchen table, and might need to convert a spare room into the classroom. You might need to continue the same schedule your child was familiar with and keep the same hours of school work. For the second time, it will definitely land squarely on your shoulders how you get ready for your child’s life away from school and outside of your home school.

These things are really not that hard to keep up. Remember that you must come up with the same programs in school for your home schooling so that your child will not miss the fun of being in school and also his education. You must treat him the way a teacher does so he will feel like he is in school away from school.

Homeschooling your child through his or her senior year in high school can be demanding and difficult. There are many things to consider as you guide your child through their final years of their secondary education and on towards college. Here are a few ideas to discuss with your child concerning their final and important years of education.

The Money Factor

Expenses generally skyrocket in the last few years with more challenging textbooks to purchase and additional after school activities. Some cities have homeschooling co-ops established to help parents cope with the rising cost of education. Local libraries can be an excellent informational resource and also give other homeschoolers a place to meet or share advice. One of the best low cost options is to join the local home school organization and share textbooks with other parents as often as possible to defray the expense.

Do you have an advanced student?

Teaching an advanced student can be scary, but parents should be proud of what they have helped their child accomplish. Online home schooling resources can be a great help for the advanced student. Transferring your homeschooler to private or public school?

For many parents, home schooling a high school age child can be extremely difficult. Some feel they should transition their child to a private or public high school, however, the stress of the transition can wreck havoc on a teenager. Public high school environments can seem unfriendly, stilted and restrictive to a child who has had theloving support and educational flexibility of being homeschooled. Private school could be an alternative, but there are still the drawbacks of public schools plus the added burden of cost with a private institution. In addition to adjusting to a new environment, if you decide to transition your homeschooled teenager you must also be mindful of the “new kid” syndrome that so often occurrs. This can be especially difficult for homeschooled children who may be viewed as “weird” or “strange” by both students and teachers alike. Weigh your options carefully before plunging your child back into mainstream education.

Are there any additional options?

Feeling uncertain or over-whelmed about home schooling your senior high school student is normal. If transitioning your homeschooled child to public or private high school isn’t an option, you might consider the following options. Network with other parents who home school their children. Have each parent discuss what they feel they are best at teaching. Find parents who would be willing to trade skills in order to gain the best education for their children. A parent who is skilled in Math or Science and enjoys teaching high school age students might be willing to teach your child in exchange for teaching one of their children English or a foreign language. In this way, both students will benefit from additional stimulation and extra socialization.
